Low Pressure in Arabian Sea May Turn into Depression Heavy Rain Forecast for These Districts of Gujarat

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasts that a low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea is likely to intensify into a depression by Friday evening. This weather event is expected to bring substantial rainfall and strong winds to many parts of Gujarat in the coming days.
Ahmedabad Braces for Change
Ahmedabad experienced hot and dry conditions on Thursday, with temperatures reaching 41°C and no rainfall recorded in the preceding 24 hours. However, forecasters now anticipate light to moderate showers for the city, accompanied by winds of 35 to 45 kmph, potentially gusting up to 55 kmph.
The low-pressure area, currently situated over the east-central Arabian Sea near the Konkan-Goa coast, is predicted to move northward. There’s a possibility it could strengthen into a deep depression or even a cyclone if conditions are favorable, potentially leading to wind speeds of up to 87 kmph. This system is expected to deliver rainfall to parts of Saurashtra and Gujarat within the next week.
Multiple Weather Systems at Play
An active upper-air circulation over the Arabian Sea is also expected to contribute to increased rainfall across Gujarat. Maritime authorities have issued warnings advising fishermen to avoid venturing into the sea. Those already offshore are urged to return to harbor by Friday evening.
Ahmedabad’s maximum temperature on Thursday was 41°C, slightly below seasonal averages, while the minimum was 30.1°C, marginally above normal. Humidity decreased from 63% in the morning to 38% by evening. The city has received 57.8 mm of seasonal rainfall to date, exceeding the normal by 48 mm.

Orange Alert Issued for 12 Districts
The IMD has issued an orange alert for May 23 and 24 for several districts, including Gir Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Junagadh, Rajkot, Bharuch, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Dang, Navsari, and Valsad. These areas are likely to experience heavy rainfall and thunderstorms. Other districts across the state are expected to see light to moderate showers.
For Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar, light rainfall and thunder are anticipated, though significant downpours are not expected for these urban centers. Temperatures in these cities are likely to remain around 41°C over the next 24 hours.
