Kheda: Minor Girl Raped By Two Men, Forced To Undergo Abortion On Getting Pregnant

The incident of the rape of a 14-year-old girl in Punaj village of Kheda has created a stir. The police have caught the 2 accused who had raped the minor girl who had gone to graze goats, and have undertaken legal investigation in the matter. Incidents of harassment and rape are consistently rising in the state. Such incidents raise questions about the safety of women in Gujarat.

According to sources, the incident took place in Punaj village of Kheda, wherein the minor girl had gone to graze goats when the accused raped her, causing her to become pregnant. As the girl got pregnant, she was taken to a doctor in Vaso, and was made to have an abortion secretly. It has been found that the doctor is the uncle of the accused.

The family of the minor girl has alleged that the doctor intimidated the victim and forced her to have an abortion. Moreover, the accused had threatened the victim’s family to suppress the matter. The victim’s family had filed a complaint at the police station, following which the police have registered a case under the POCSO Act and sections of rape. Considering the seriousness of the situation, the police took swift action and nabbed both the accused.

Meanwhile, the minor girl has been shifted to the hospital for treatment. A post-mortem was performed on the aborted fetus. The samples of the fetus’s bones have been sent to the Ahmedabad Civil Hospital. The police also visited the scene and recorded the statements of the nearby people.

Such crimes continue to take place in both rural and urban areas. Minor girls are also becoming targets of such heinous crimes, which has become a rising concern, demanding the need of serious intervention by the authorities.
