Junagadh: Authorities have registered a formal police complaint and detained the principal and warden of Maa Amar Educational Campus near Bhensan, Junagadh, after CCTV footage confirmed incidents of alleged sexual misconduct involving hostel students.
The accused, Principal Keval Lakhanotra and Hostel Warden Hiren Joshi, are under investigation following allegations raised during a parent-teacher meeting on Sunday. More than 20 students staying at the hostel reported inappropriate behavior and harassment.
Initially, parents were reluctant to take legal steps, delaying immediate action. However, on Monday, the District Education Officer (DEO) Lataben Upadhyay visited the school with Bhensan police and conducted a preliminary inquiry. During this visit, conversations with students supported the allegations.
Crucially, CCTV footage reportedly captured some of the alleged incidents. Based on this evidence, the DEO directed the school’s trustees to file a police complaint. The trustees have since submitted the complaint, and police have detained both the principal and the warden for questioning.
The investigation is ongoing, and officials are reviewing the CCTV footage and interviewing additional students and staff members. The case has prompted renewed discussions around safety measures in educational institutions, especially those with residential facilities.
