Iron Shed Collapses At Umargam GIDC In Vapi; One Dies, Seven Rescued

Shed Allegedly Collapsed Due To Heavy Weight Put On It

A tragic incident has taken place in Vapi’s Umargam, wherein an iron shed collapsed suddenly. A total of 8 people got trapped under the shed, out of which 1 died due to suffering from injuries; the remaining 7 were rescued from under the debris.

The incident reportedly occurred today (July 1) morning at the company GB Pack Private Limited of the Umargam GIDC. The company is involved in the manufacturing of plastic products. Apparently, there was an iron shed constructed in the company which collapsed today morning. Eight workers present nearby got trapped under the debris of the collapsed shed.

Upon learning about the incident, the manager of the company, along with other workers rushed to the spot. In addition, a team of the fire department also reached the spot and undertook rescue operations. Seven people were successfully rescued from under the debris. Out of which, 4 workers suffered minor injuries whereas 3 others were seriously injured. One worker died due to suffering from injuries.

It has been revealed that the shed collapsed due to not being able to withstand the weight of the bags filled with plastic granules that were put on it. On the other hand, it is also being believed that strong winds and rainfall led the shed to collapse. The incident highlights negligence of the company, as the shed allegedly collapsed due to heavy weight being put on it. This calls for immediate action prompting for workplace safety measures.

Following the incident, PI of Umargam police, PI Chaudhary reached the spot with his team. The deceased has been identified as Bhavin Joshi. Following are the names of the rescued workers-
