As monsoon has started in full swing in Gujarat, rivers and canals across the state have started reaching alert levels, with some even overflowing. Amid such conditions, incidents of drowning are also on the rise.
One such incident has taken place in Bhuj, wherein drowning in a pit has claimed two lives. As per sources, a 16-year-old minor girl and an 18-year-old woman reportedly died after drowning in a pit near the Nagor Railway Bridge in Bhuj. The bodies of both the deceased were taken out from the pit by the locals, who rushed to the spot as the incident took place. Police have started investigating the matter, and the bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Such incidents of drowning are increasing lately, especially because of waterlogging on the roads and overflowing of rivers. Elsewhere, in Sabarkantha, a youth died of drowning in the Sapteshwar River. Whereas, near Kanadar village, an 18-year-old youth lost his life by falling into a waterfall while taking pictures.

In a separate incident on Sunday afternoon, 23-year-old Nilesh Devjibhai Parmar from Katosan (Rajpura) village in Detroj taluka of Mehsana district reportedly drowned in a river. Such incidents pose as warnings for people to practice necessary safety precautions while on waterlogged roads or near rivers or waterfalls, especially during the ongoing rainy days.
