IMD Predicts Rainfall With Thunderstorm In Ahmedabad For Next Five Days

Winds Likely To Blow At 30 Kilometers Per Hour

Ahmedabad is experiencing a change in weather due to western disturbance. On Sunday (May 4), unseasonal rains occurred in various parts of the state. Now, the IMD has predicted rainfall with thunderstorm on Tuesday (May 6) in several districts of the state including Ahmedabad. In addition, in many places, wind might blow at 30 kilometers per hour. On the other hand, on May 7 and May 8, there is a possibility of heavy winds blowing at 40 to 50 kilometers per hour, along with rainfall.

As per the prediction, there might be a change in the weather of Ahmedabad, starting from Tuesday (May 6), for the next five days. Along with winds blowing at the speed of 30 to 40 kilometers per hour, light to medium rainfall accompanied by thunder might also be experienced. According to weather experts, there is a possibility of 63% rainfall on Tuesday (May 6), 70% on Wednesday (May 7), 43% on Thursday (May 8), and 40% on Friday-Saturday (May 9-10).

On Sunday, Ahmedabad recorded an average maximum temperature of 41.4 degrees. However, the temperature may drop below 40 degrees due to the possibilities of rain. As of other areas in the state, average maximum temperature was recorded at 40.9 degrees in Amreli, 41.8 degrees in Rajkot, 40.4 degrees in Vadodara, 39.1 degrees in Bhavnagar-Deesa, 37.6 degrees in Bhuj, and 34.3 degrees in Surat.

Light to medium rains are predicted in these areas over the next 5 days

  • May 5- Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Amreli, Bhavnagar, and Kutch.
  • May 6 to May 9- Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Ahmedabad, Anand, Kheda, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Valsad, Navsari, Surendranagar, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Gir-Somnath, Rajkot, Jamnagar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Dwarka, Botad, and Diu.

As the weather in the state changed suddenly, unseasonal rains were recorded at Ahmedabad, Banaskantha, Gandhinagar, Sabarkantha, Mehsana, and Surendranagar on May 4. Meanwhile, unseasonal rainfall during the ongoing summer season has resulted in hardships for the farmers as the agricultural and horticultural crops have been damaged.

Farmers in trouble due to unseasonal rains

Due to the unseasonal rains, a farmer had to bear a loss of lakhs of rupees as the crop of muskmelons planted by him on 18 bighas of land got damaged. As a result, the farmer has demanded for compensation from the government for his loss.

On the other hand, around 500 mangoes fell from the mango trees in Palanpur. Apparently, a farmer from Palanpur had leased a mango farm (ambawadi) for around Rs.8 lakhs. The farmer might have to bear a loss of lakhs of rupees due to the mangoes falling down from the trees.

Farmers across the state had to bear the brunt of unseasonal rains. Crops kept in the open got damaged due to rain in the Bhiloda yard in Aravalli. Consequently, the traders and farmers had to bear a loss of lakhs of rupees. However, the crops of wheat, corn, and soyabean among others were kept in the open by the yard management despite the prediction of the weather department. The farmers and traders had demanded compensation from the government.
