
In the month of May, weather in Gujarat has observed a change, as some parts of the state are dry and facing heat waves whereas some other parts are experiencing heavy rainfall. Although the South-west monsoon is yet to arrive, Gujarat has started experiencing rainy weather. The reason of which is upper air cyclonic circulation.
Amid such conditions, IMD has predicted light to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm for the next 7 days. A yellow alert has been issued in Saurashtra and South Gujarat. In addition, strong winds blowing at a speed of 50-70 km per hour, along with heavy rainfall and thunderstorm, have been predicted.
Meanwhile, chief minister Bhupendra Patel has instructed to start the control rooms. Moreover, control rooms of the areas having a yellow alert have been instructed to function 24×7. The district administrations of Saurashtra and South Gujarat have been ordered to remain alert and vigilant. Amid the ongoing heavy rainfall in the districts of Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Navsari, Daang, and Valsad, the IMD has issued a yellow alert today (May 22).
There are predictions of heavy rainfall and thunderstorms till May 28 in more than 12 districts of Saurashtra and South Gujarat, as per IMD. Whereas from May 23 to May 25, a yellow alert has been issued in the districts of Rajkot, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Narmada, Navsari, Daang, and Valsad, due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorms at scattered places.
On May 26, rainfall has been predicted in 15 districts of the state. Yellow alert has been issued due to thunderstorm and rainfall in Rajkot, Porbandar, Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Gir-Somnath, Anand, Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Navsari, Daang, and Valsad. Whereas, winds blowing at a speed of 50-70 km per hour with thunder are predicted in the entire state.
As of on May 27, yellow alert has been issued at Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, Junagadh, Gir-Somnath, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Narmada, Surat, Tapi, Daang, Navsari, and Valsad, due to heavy rainfall and thunderstorm at scattered places. For the same conditions, yellow alert has been issued at Devbhoomi Dwarka, Jamnagar, Porbandar, Rajkot, Junagadh, Gir-Somnath, Navsari, Daang, Tapi, and Valsad, on May 28.
Unseasonal rains continue to lash several parts of the state. Along with the possibility of the cyclonic situation in the Arabian Sea, a western disturbance is also forming. Apart from Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, and the Bay of Bengal, a cyclonic circulation is also present in the northeast Arabian Sea near the South Gujarat coast.
