Honour Killing In Amreli: Father Strangles Daughter To Death For Interfaith Relationship

Amreli: In a shocking case of honour killing, a 22-year-old woman, Ishika Khokhar from Dedan village in Khambha Taluka, was allegedly strangled to death by her father after she sought help from the 181 Abhayam Helpline. By the time the rescue team reached her residence, she had already been killed.
According to reports, Ishika was in a relationship with a Hindu man named Kana, who belonged to the same village. However, her parents, Majidbhai Gulabbhai Khokhar and Mumtazben Khokhar, disapproved of the interfaith relationship. Despite her objections, they arranged her marriage with someone else and began pressuring her to comply. When she resisted, tensions escalated at home.
Fearing for her safety, Ishika reached out to the 181 Abhayam Helpline for support. Enraged by this and fearing dishonour to the family, her father allegedly strangled her to death around 2:30 AM. When the Abhayam team arrived at the house in response to her call, the family tried to prevent them from entering, claiming that Ishika was asleep. Suspecting foul play, the team insisted on checking on her. Upon entering, they found her unresponsive. She was later declared dead, and her body was sent for post-mortem examination.
Following the incident, Khambha Police, including ASP Jayvir Gadhvi and other senior officials, rushed to the scene. A case of murder has been registered against the accused father. PSI Raviraj Singh Chauhan from Khambha Police Station filed the complaint himself, and a detailed investigation is now underway.
