Gujarat is set to experience a fresh wave of monsoon activity starting Friday, August 15, 2025, after a brief lull, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The weather agency has issued a seven-day alert for heavy rainfall across multiple districts.

The IMD forecasts that the monsoon will intensify, bringing significant showers over the next week. On August 15, districts such as Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, and Valsad are expected to see heavy rainfall. The following day, August 16, the alert extends to Banaskantha, Patan, Mehsana, Sabarkantha, Gandhinagar, Aravalli, Kheda, Ahmedabad, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Bharuch, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad, all likely to experience intense showers. On August 17, heavy rainfall is predicted for Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Narmada, Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad.

The IMD has issued an orange alert for Surat, Dang, Tapi, Navsari, and Valsad on August 18, signaling the potential for very heavy rainfall. In Ahmedabad, heavy showers are expected on the morning of August 15, with more rain forecast for the afternoon. The IMD notes that Gujarat has already received 64% of its seasonal rainfall, indicating an active monsoon season.

Residents are advised to stay vigilant, as the heavy rains could lead to disruptions. The forecast underscores the need for preparedness in low-lying and flood-prone areas. The historical significance of the region, referencing the 1906 flag-hoisting by Madam Bhikhaiji Cama’s descendants in Dabhoi, though this is unrelated to the weather alert.
