Gujarat Braces for Unseasonal Rain and Intensifying Cold Wave

Ahmedabad – Gujarat residents are facing a shift in weather patterns as unseasonal rainfall and dropping temperatures dominate the early days of the new year.

Forecaster Ambalal Patel has warned of potential unseasonal rain across several parts of the state over the next 48 hours, with North Gujarat and Central Gujarat likely to see the most noticeable changes. Intense cold is already gripping the region, and conditions are expected to worsen further, accompanied by widespread dense fog in urban and rural areas alike.

On December 31, 2025, a strong Western Disturbance activated over North India triggered light rain in parts of Saurashtra and North Gujarat. Early morning showers were reported in rural areas of Porbandar and Dwarka, as well as in the Kalyanpur region, spreading a chill but raising concerns over possible damage to winter crops. Cloudy skies prevailed along Saurashtra’s coast, leaving farmers worried about crop losses.

The weather department forecasts light rain in Kutch and Porbandar districts, with isolated showers possible in Banaskantha and Patan. Light drizzle may also occur in Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch. In Ahmedabad, a foggy morning led to higher pollution levels.

Looking ahead, a spell of severe cold is anticipated starting January 11, potentially lasting with intensity until January 18. Dense fog could disrupt vehicular traffic significantly.

Gujarat’s weather has grown increasingly unpredictable, alternating between cold snaps, warmth, and unexpected rain, impacting daily life and agriculture.

For kite flyers preparing for Uttarayan, Ambalal Patel offers mixed news: wind speeds are expected to remain low in the morning but increase after noon. While current cold levels are moderate, January is set to bring harsher conditions requiring preparation.
