Gujarat Braces for Heavy Rainfall as IMD Issues Orange Alert Until August 25

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for multiple districts in Gujarat, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall through August 25, 2025. The alert highlights Sabarkantha, Aravalli, Mahisagar, and Kutch as areas expected to experience significant downpours, with other regions also facing potential heavy rain. This weather pattern is driven by an active southwest monsoon, which has already brought substantial rainfall to the state.

On Thursday, Talod in Sabarkantha recorded the highest rainfall at 51mm, followed by Dhansura in Aravalli (44mm), Tilakwada in Narmada (42mm), and Umbergaon and Kaprada in Valsad (39mm and 37mm, respectively). The IMD predicts that Sabarkantha, Aravalli, and Mahisagar, along with Kutch, will continue to see intense rainfall on Friday. Over the weekend, the forecast indicates very heavy rain in Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, Amreli, and Bhavnagar on Saturday, with Aravalli, Dahod, Mahisagar, Chhota Udepur, Surendranagar, Bhavnagar, and Botad expected to be heavily impacted on Sunday.

The State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC) reports that Gujarat has received 76% of its seasonal rainfall as of Thursday. South Gujarat leads with 78.99%, followed closely by Kutch at 78.81%, Saurashtra at 76.36%, and North Gujarat at 74.67%. East-Central Gujarat has seen the least, with 71.97% of its average rainfall. The heavy rains have put 70 dams on high alert, 35 on alert, and 16 on warning status, indicating potential risks to water management infrastructure.

The IMD advises residents to stay cautious, particularly in low-lying and flood-prone areas, and to follow official guidelines to ensure safety. Authorities are closely monitoring the situation as the monsoon continues to influence weather patterns across the state.
