The Meteorological Department has issued a 5-day forecast, placing certain areas of Gujarat under a yellow alert for rain from May 24 to 27. South Gujarat and Saurashtra are anticipated to experience heavy rainfall, accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds, potentially reaching speeds of up to 50 km/h.
Widespread rain is predicted across the state until May 27. This weather pattern is attributed to an active well-marked low-pressure system in the Arabian Sea, which is expected to intensify into a depression within the next 24 hours. Fishermen have been advised to avoid venturing into the sea for the next five days.
Gujarat and Maharashtra Brace for Torrential Rains
According to weather expert Paresh Goswami, the low-pressure system is likely to strengthen into a depression on May 24, indicating the possibility of torrential rain in Gujarat and Maharashtra in the coming days. Specifically, several areas in Maharashtra, including Mumbai, could witness extremely heavy rainfall.
Coastal Areas to See Light to Moderate Showers
While the threat of a major cyclone appears to have subsided, all districts in South Gujarat are likely to receive above-average rainfall. Coastal areas of Saurashtra, particularly Bhavnagar, Amreli, Gir-Somnath, Junagadh, and Rajkot, are also forecasted to experience light to moderate showers. Scattered rainfall with thunderstorms and strong winds is expected until May 30-31. Currently, winds are blowing from the north-east at speeds of 50-60 km/h.
