Gujarat On High Alert As COVID-19 Cases Reappear: Civil Hospitals Prepped With Beds, Oxygen And Emergency Supplies

Ahmedabad: With an uptick in COVID-19 cases, Gujarat’s healthcare system is ramping up emergency preparedness. The state has recorded eight infections, prompting swift action from the health department to ensure hospitals are ready to manage a potential surge. In Ahmedabad, Civil Hospital has created a COVID-ready facility with 1,200 beds fully equipped with oxygen support. Two massive oxygen tanks, holding 20,000 liters, are on standby to meet any increase in demand. The hospital also has ample stocks of PPE kits, ventilators, and critical medications.

Dr. Rakesh Joshi, the hospital’s superintendent, confirmed that while all seven COVID-19 patients in Ahmedabad are currently recovering at home and do not require hospitalization, the hospital remains on high alert. “We’re prepared to admit patients immediately if their condition worsens,” he said. “All beds are oxygen-enabled, and our supplies are fully stocked.”

Rajkot, which has not yet reported any new cases, has nonetheless activated a 20-bed isolation ward in its Civil Hospital. Authorities there are prepared to expand capacity to 200 beds if necessary. The ward is equipped with ventilators, PPE, and essential medicines. Vadodara’s Sayaji Hospital has set aside a 22-bed isolation unit, while Surat has completed preparations to open a dedicated COVID ward at a moment’s notice should the need arise.

The recent cases include a 51-year-old man from Kadi who tested positive today and is reportedly in stable condition. The seven patients from Ahmedabad are currently under home isolation and being monitored. Dr. Joshi reminded citizens that the situation is under control but advised everyone to stay vigilant. “We’ve managed this before, we’ll manage it again,” he said.
