Gujarat Monsoon Alert: Over 5 Inches of Rain Floods Dwarka and Kalyanpur – Check Latest Rainfall Breakdown and Forecasts

Ahmedabad: Gujarat is facing a fresh wave of monsoon activity. The State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar released rainfall figures up to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, revealing that showers hit 83 talukas across the state.

Dwarka topped the list with the heaviest downpour at 5.43 inches. Kalyanpur followed closely with 5.08 inches, while Mangrol in Junagadh saw 3.74 inches, Umargam 2.64 inches, Mandvi in Kutch 1.97 inches, Maliya Hatina 1.65 inches, Jamjodhpur 1.61 inches, Nakhatrana 1.26 inches, and Bagsara 1.14 inches. Meanwhile, 73 talukas recorded less than an inch of rain.

Overall, the state has clocked an average of 72.68% of its seasonal rainfall so far. Regionally, Kutch stands at 70.38%, North Gujarat at 71.48%, East Central at 68.48%, Saurashtra at 66.01%, and South Gujarat at 72.68%. The Sardar Sarovar Dam is currently at 77.34% of its full storage capacity.

A Weather Watch Group meeting took place at the State Emergency Operation Center in Gandhinagar, chaired by the Relief Commissioner. During the session, an official from the Indian Meteorological Department shared in-depth details on Gujarat’s rainfall outlook for the upcoming week.

The department has predicted extremely heavy rains on August 20 in Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surat, Navsari, and Valsad districts. For August 21, similar intense showers are expected in Kutch, Devbhoomi Dwarka, Porbandar, and Junagadh districts. Beyond that, moderate to heavy rainfall is forecasted statewide through August 25.

Meeting updates from NDRF and SDRF officials confirmed that 12 NDRF teams and 20 SDRF teams are stationed across various districts to manage any monsoon-related emergencies.

One additional NDRF team remains in reserve. The Relief Commissioner also directed the deployment of an SDRF team for the Tarnetar fair in Surendranagar district.

An Irrigation Department official presented a region-by-region overview of dam water levels, sparking discussions. Out of the state’s 206 reservoirs, 61 are on high alert, 27 on alert, and 21 on warning status. Separately, a representative from the Sardar Sarovar Narmada Nigam provided updates on the Sardar Sarovar Dam’s storage.

The Relief Commissioner issued essential guidelines and directives to nodal officers from all departments during the meeting. Officials were also advised to stay vigilant in preparation for potential heavy rains throughout the monsoon season.
