Gujarat Man To Marry Two Women In Same Ceremony; Wedding Card Sparks Curiosity Among Netizens

Navsari: In a rare and culturally significant wedding, a man from Gujarat’s tribal belt is set to marry two women in the same ceremony, drawing widespread attention after the invitation card surfaced on social media. Meghraj Deshmukh, a 36-year-old resident of Khanpur village in Vansda taluka, will marry Kajalben from Khanda village and Rekhaben from Keliya village on May 19. What sets this event apart is not just the simultaneous marriage but the fact that all three have been living together as a family for several years and are now making their union official.

The wedding card, which features the names of one groom and two brides, quickly went viral online, sparking both surprise and intrigue. While some viewed it as a curiosity, others sent congratulatory messages and even reached out to Deshmukh directly to learn more.

Speaking to reporters, Meghraj explained that his relationship with both women has been longstanding and consensual. Together, they are raising three children, two with Kajalben and one with Rekhaben. “We’ve lived as a family for years. Now that we are financially stable, we’re formalizing our relationship through a proper ceremony,” he said.

In the tribal communities of South Gujarat, such arrangements are not entirely uncommon. Due to economic constraints, couples sometimes begin living together following a symbolic ritual known as Phulhaar or Chandla Vidhi. Once financially settled, they often proceed with an official marriage.

Meghraj’s father, Chanabhai Deshmukh, confirmed the cultural precedent, stating, “Even I had two marriages, as did my father. Our traditions allow it when there is mutual understanding and harmony between families.”

Despite the unconventional nature of the wedding, both families have given their full support. With the viral invitation now making headlines across the state, the upcoming ceremony is expected to draw significant local interest.

The wedding, scheduled for May 19, will be held in Khanpur village with the participation of both brides and their children. According to locals, this will be not just a personal milestone for the couple, but also a rare reflection of cultural practices that still exist in parts of rural Gujarat.
