Gujarat Leads the Nation in Inflation Control, Records Lowest Rate Among Major States

Gandhinagar: Alongside economic development, the Gujarat government has achieved significant success in controlling inflation. The state has managed to maintain a lower inflation rate compared to the national average. According to recent data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation, Gujarat’s annual retail inflation rate (based on the Consumer Price Index or CPI) for March 2025 stood at 2.63%, which is 0.71% lower than the national average of 3.34%. This figure is also lower than the rates reported in several larger and more developed states.
While the Gujarat government continues to frame new policies to boost development and attract investments in emerging sectors, it is also making focused efforts to stabilize the prices of essential commodities for citizens.
Rural Gujarat sees lower inflation than urban areas
Through strategic policymaking, Gujarat has successfully kept inflation in check, with the state reporting a 2.63% inflation rate for March 2025. In rural areas, the rate was 2.61%, while urban areas recorded a slightly higher rate of 2.70%. Both figures are significantly lower than the national rural and urban averages of 3.25% and 3.43%, respectively.
These numbers highlight that the pro-rural development policies of both the central and state governments have helped lower the prices of daily essentials in villages, resulting in less inflation in rural areas compared to cities. The Gujarat government has launched multiple initiatives focused on farmers and rural progress, which are contributing to prosperity in villages.
Gujarat’s impressive performance in inflation control
Gujarat’s effective inflation management has positioned it ahead of many other major states. As per the Ministry’s data, other states reported the following inflation rates:

With an inflation rate of 2.63%, Gujarat has emerged as one of the most successful states in maintaining price stability, outperforming these larger and economically advanced states in inflation control.
