Gujarat High Court Revokes Non-Bailable Warrant Against Hardik Patel After He Pledges Court Attendance

Gujarat High Court on Monday quashed a non-bailable warrant issued against Viramgam BJP MLA Hardik Patel after he assured on oath that he would appear before the trial court on the scheduled dates. The warrant was earlier issued by a Judicial Magistrate’s Court in Ahmedabad (Rural) following Patel’s repeated absence in a 2018 case registered at Nikol Police Station.

In his undertaking, Patel stated that he would be present before the Additional Judicial Magistrate (Ahmedabad Rural) for all future hearings unless specifically exempted by the trial court. Taking note of his sworn assurance, the High Court set aside the order. The trial court has fixed the next hearing for October 8.

Earlier, Patel had moved a discharge application before the trial and sessions courts, both of which were dismissed. He also approached the High Court with a quashing plea that is still under consideration, keeping the trial proceedings active.

The FIR against Patel dates back to the Patidar quota agitation of 2018, when he allegedly organized a fast in Nikol without police permission. He faces charges of unlawful assembly, rioting, and criminal conspiracy.
