Gujarat Braces for Heatwave from April 15; Rajkot Hits 42.7°C

Following a brief respite from extreme heat, Gujarat is once again preparing for soaring temperatures as a fresh heatwave is expected to begin on April 15, according to forecasts from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD). Over the past two to three days, the state had seen a slight dip in temperatures, offering some relief. However, this cooldown ends today.

The IMD has predicted that temperatures in Ahmedabad and Rajkot will rise to 42°C today. On Sunday, Rajkot recorded a sweltering 42.7°C, becoming the hottest city in the state. In addition to Rajkot, six other cities experienced temperatures above 40°C, underlining the widespread nature of the current heat conditions.

Despite cooler conditions elsewhere in the state over the weekend, Rajkot residents remained under intense heat, with no sign of relief. Sunday’s high of 42.7°C was one of the highest this month so far.Looking ahead, the IMD has warned of a renewed heatwave starting April 15, particularly in the districts of Kutch, Banaskantha, Sabarkantha, and Rajkot. The forecast indicates a spike in temperatures across these regions, signaling the return of oppressive weather conditions that marked the beginning of April.
