Gujarat Government Declares One Day’s State Mourning On June 16 To Honor Former CM Vijay Rupani

Ahmedabad: The Government of Gujarat has declared a one-day state mourning on June 16 as a mark of respect for former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani, who passed away following the tragic plane crash of Ahmedabad. The announcement was made on Sunday, shortly after DNA confirmation of Rupani’s death. Rupani was among 241 individuals on the ill-fated Air India flight to London that crashed minutes after the take-off.

As part of the state mourning, the national flag will fly at half-mast on all government buildings across Gujarat on Monday. Additionally, no official entertainment or celebratory events will be held throughout the day.

The final rites of the late leader will be conducted with full state honors in Rajkot on the evening of June 16. Rupani’s mortal remains will be brought to Rajkot earlier in the day, where citizens and dignitaries will have the opportunity to pay their last respects.

Vijay Rupani, who served as the 16th Chief Minister of Gujarat, held office from 2016 to 2021 and was widely known for his calm leadership and commitment to public welfare. His untimely demise has deeply saddened the people of Gujarat and the political fraternity nationwide.
