Ahmedabad: Gujarat has received an average of 25 inches of rainfall so far this monsoon season, accounting for 70 per cent of the season’s total rainfall. However, the uneven distribution of rain across different parts of the state has emerged as a concern. Rainfall deficiency is currently being recorded in 14 districts, with nine districts receiving more than 30 per cent less rainfall than normal, raising concerns among farmers and the administration.
Devbhumi Dwarka Records Highest 81% Rainfall Deficit
According to rainfall data, the situation is most concerning in Devbhumi Dwarka district, which has received an average of only 2.06 inches of rain so far, or just 6.24 per cent of the seasonal rainfall. The district has recorded the highest rainfall deficit of around 81 per cent.

Porbandar has also recorded a significant rainfall deficit of around 67 per cent, with an average of only 5.87 inches of rain so far.
Other major districts facing severe rainfall shortages include Jamnagar, Kutch, Aravalli, Sabarkantha, Dahod and Gir Somnath.
Region-Wise Rainfall Figures in Gujarat
The rainfall figures across different regions of the state are as follows:
- South Gujarat: 58.83 inches, with 97 per cent of the seasonal rainfall received
- East-Central Gujarat: 15.10 inches, with 67 per cent of the seasonal rainfall received
- Saurashtra: 16.37 inches, with 54.58 per cent of the seasonal rainfall received
- North Gujarat: 14.78 inches, with 51.39 per cent of the seasonal rainfall received
- Kutch: 5.71 inches, with only 29 per cent of the seasonal rainfall received
South Gujarat has received abundant rainfall, with around 97 per cent of the season’s rainfall already recorded. In contrast, regions such as Kutch and North Gujarat are still awaiting substantial rainfall.
The significant rainfall deficit in nine districts could affect water levels in reservoirs and agricultural crops in the coming days.
