Gujarat Ex-Servicemen Express Dissatisfaction At Government Over Broken Promises, Submit Petition To CM And Governor

Gandhinagar: Ex-servicemen in Gujarat have voiced strong dissatisfaction with the state government, accusing it of failing to deliver on promises made nearly two years ago. The veterans have formally appealed to Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and Governor Acharya Devvrat, urging immediate action on unresolved issues.
In response to demands from former military personnel, the Gujarat government had set up a high-level committee to address 14 key concerns raised by the veteran community. The committee, chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary (Home), held meetings on November 23, 2022, and June 26, 2023. Despite this, ex-servicemen claim that there has been no follow-through or implementation of the decisions discussed.
Representatives of the ex-servicemen stated that despite discussions and commitments, no policy reforms or updated government circulars have been issued. “Almost two years have passed, and nothing has changed,” they said, adding that the government has neither introduced new policies nor revised existing ones. They also demanded a new round of discussions and a formal government communication to continue the dialogue.
The veterans further pointed out that other states have already implemented progressive policies to support ex-servicemen and their families. In contrast, Gujarat still lacks a clear and concrete policy. “We have always stood ready to serve the nation, including during Operation Sindoor,” they said. The ex-servicemen are now calling for urgent intervention and resolution from the top leadership in the state.
A formal petition has been submitted to both the Chief Minister and the Governor, asking for swift action on these long-pending issues.
