Gujarat is facing an unusual weather mix as April kicks off, following a scorching March where temperatures soared to 40°C across multiple cities. The Meteorological Department has forecasted unseasonal rainfall for the next three days, adding complexity to the state’s already intense climate conditions.
Heatwaves are set to grip Porbandar, Gir Somnath, and Diu, while unseasonal showers are expected in four Central Gujarat districts, three in Saurashtra, and all of South Gujarat. On March 31, Rajkot emerged as the state’s hottest spot, hitting a sweltering 41.1°C.

The Meteorological Department predicts light to moderate rainfall on April 1 across Central Gujarat, including Vadodara, Panchmahal, Dahod, and Chhota Udepur. South Gujarat’s districts—Bharuch, Surat, Tapi, and Valsad—are also braced for rain. In Saurashtra, Gir Somnath, Bhavnagar, Amreli, and Diu are expected to see scattered showers, with a thunderstorm warning in place.

Unseasonal rain forecast for South Gujarat and Saurashtra is raising alarm among mango farmers. Known for its Kesar mangoes, this region’s crops are currently maturing, and unexpected downpours could heighten concerns for growers.
Heatwave Alert Issued
The Meteorological Department has sounded a yellow alert for Gir Somnath and Porbandar, where heatwave conditions could push temperatures four and a half degrees above normal, signaling a significant spike in the coming days.

On March 31, Rajkot topped Gujarat’s heat charts with a high of 41.1°C. Other cities weren’t far behind, with Ahmedabad recording 40°C, Vadodara at 40.2°C, and Surat reaching 38.2°C, underscoring the widespread heatwave impact.
