Gujarat ATS Arrests Punjab’s Wanted Drug And Arms Smuggler From Ahmedabad’s Rakhial Area

In a significant counter-terror and anti-narcotics operation, the Gujarat Anti-Terrorism Squad (ATS) has arrested a wanted accused linked to a high-profile heroin and arms smuggling case from Punjab’s Amritsar district, nabbing him from a densely populated area of Ahmedabad.

The accused, identified as Rahmat Ali Sheikh, was wanted in a case registered at Raja Sasi Police Station in Amritsar in connection with the smuggling of heroin, hand grenades, and pistols sourced from across the Pakistan-Punjab border. After two co-accused were arrested earlier in the case from whom police had recovered 42 kg of heroin, four hand grenades, one Star Mark pistol, and 46 cartridges Rahmat Ali had fled Punjab to evade arrest.

According to Gujarat ATS DySP Harsh Upadhyay, a tip-off revealed that the accused had escaped from Punjab, traveled through Nepal, and then made his way to Ahmedabad via Bihar. Acting on this intelligence, ATS teams tracked him down to an embroidery factory in the Rakhial area of Ahmedabad, where he had been staying and working to conceal his identity.

Interrogation of the accused revealed that Rahmat Ali was a key part of a larger narcotics and grenades-pistol network. He had allegedly facilitated the delivery of a consignment of heroin, hand grenades, and pistols sourced from the Pakistan side of the Punjab border to other individuals in Punjab in January.

The ATS is currently investigating who assisted the accused during his time in Ahmedabad. Authorities are also making arrangements to hand Rahmat Ali Sheikh over to the Punjab Police in connection with the original case.
