Vadodara: In the wake of the tragic collapse of the Gambhira Bridge in Vadodara, which claimed the lives of 20 people, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel has granted administrative approval for the construction of a new two-lane high-level bridge over the Mahi River near Mujpur. The ₹212 crore project will connect the towns of Padra and Anklav and strengthen the transport link between Central Gujarat and Saurashtra.
The new bridge will be built parallel to the collapsed structure, with the Roads and Buildings Department having already conducted a detailed survey and prepared the project report. The collapse had severely disrupted transport, education access, and local employment, prompting urgent state-level action.
The approach road to Mujpur, which is currently a two-lane road, will be widened to a four-lane route with a 7-meter width, shared N.V. Rathva, Superintendent Engineer, Roads and Buildings Department. “Additionally, a 4.2-kilometer stretch from the highway to the new bridge will also be expanded to four lanes.”
The bridge construction and approach road development are expected to be completed within 18 months. The tendering process for the project has already begun to ensure rapid implementation. Notably, five days after a bridge collapse in Gujarat’s Vadodara district claimed 20 lives, and as the search continues for one missing person.
