Sports teachers in Gujarat have been protesting for two days demanding that the recruitment of contract-based sports teachers be stopped, and sports teachers be recruited permanently on an immediate basis.
The government has published the merit list for Khel Sahayak (Primary) on the Khel Sahayak recruitment portal today. As per the list, only 1465 people have been merited against 4565 positions. So, 3100 positions are still vacant.
The government has not made any specific disclosure about when these vacancies will be filled.
The office of the State Project Director, Education Department of the Government of Gujarat had organized the Sports Aptitude Test (SAT), in which about 5000 seats were vacant while 1700 had passed the test. Out of which 1465 khel sahayaks (sports assistants) have been renewed today.
The state government had announced the vacancies 11 months earlier. 1465 candidates had accepted the job. When their term ended, they demanded the renewal of their jobs.
The candidates who were agitating in Gandhinagar are now demanding permanent recruitment and appointment on the basis of SAT from the government.
According to sources, the job, that the protesting candidates had accepted, mentioned that it had a 11-month contract. As a result, permanent appointment cannot be given. Hence, it is necessary to recruit sports assistants and fill the vacant positions, in the way the TET TAT examinations are conducted.
Apart from demanding permanent recruitment, sports teachers also demand that teachers should be permanently recruited in the primary schools as well. In addition, they demand that the SAT should be considered valid and permanent recruitment should be done on the basis of it.
The teachers also demand that the government should recruit those posts as well which were listed as vacant earlier. Lastly, a new GR structure should be created and a notification for the recruitment of permanent sports teachers should be issued immediately.
