Female Police Inspector Allegedly Slaps Lawyer In Vadodara Courtroom, Bar Association Demands Her Suspension

Vadodara: In a dramatic incident resembling a courtroom thriller, a female police inspector (PI) allegedly slapped a lawyer in open court, right in front of the presiding judge. The shocking incident occurred at the Vadodara District Court and has sparked outrage within the legal community.
According to reports, the police inspector, identified as C.H. Asundra from Gorwa Police Station, was present in court to produce an accused in a case. During the proceedings, a heated argument broke out between her and advocate Sheikh Mahmood Adil, a practicing lawyer at the Gujarat High Court who was in Vadodara for a special case.
As the argument escalated, the PI allegedly slapped Adil, not once, but twice, in full view of Judicial Magistrate A.K. Shah and other courtroom staff. The incident left those present stunned, including fellow lawyers and bystanders.
Following the altercation, the Vadodara Bar Association strongly condemned the inspector’s actions and demanded her immediate suspension. They warned that if swift action is not taken, the legal fraternity would launch an intense protest.
Advocate Adil has claimed he sustained an ear injury due to the assault and is experiencing difficulty in hearing. He has formally accused the officer of assault. On her part, Inspector Asundra stated that the lawyer was interfering as she was escorting the accused, and his conduct provoked the confrontation.
Despite the arrival of multiple senior police officials, including PIs and ACPs from four stations, efforts to resolve the matter on the spot were unsuccessful. Legal experts have pointed out that the presiding judge cannot take direct legal action in such a case; the responsibility to file an FIR lies with the police department.
As of now, the Bar Association stands firm on its demand, and the legal community awaits further action from the authorities.
