Father And Son Dead, 5 Others Injured After Tragic Accident In Mehsana

Mehsana: In a tragic accident early Tuesday morning, a father and son lost their lives after a violent collision between a Gujarat State Transport (ST) bus and a private Eeco car on the Kheralu–Satlasna highway near Taranga. Five others sustained serious injuries and were hospitalized.

The ST bus was en route from Ambaji to Rajpipla when it collided head-on with the car, which was coming from the opposite direction. The impact crushed the car beyond recognition, killing the two occupants, a man and his son, instantly. Authorities are working to formally identify the deceased.

Local residents and commuters rushed to the scene upon hearing the deafening sound of the crash. Eyewitnesses described the moment as “horrific,” with passersby joining hands to assist in pulling injured passengers from the mangled vehicles.

Emergency services responded quickly. Ambulances from the state’s 108 emergency service transported the injured to nearby hospitals, while two victims in critical condition were later shifted to a hospital in Ahmedabad for advanced treatment. The bodies of the deceased were sent for autopsy.

Kheralu police and fire services arrived shortly after the incident to clear the wreckage and restore traffic flow. An initial investigation suggests that high speed or possible driver negligence may have played a role, though authorities have not ruled out other causes.

Kheralu Police Inspector P.D. Darji confirmed the casualties and emphasized the seriousness of the incident. “Two lives were lost on the spot, and several others are recovering from significant injuries. We’re conducting a full inquiry into the circumstances that led to this tragic event.”

The crash has sparked fresh concerns over road safety in the region, particularly on highways that connect religious and tourist destinations. Local residents are calling for stricter traffic enforcement and better infrastructure to prevent such tragedies in the future. This incident once again highlights how a single moment of carelessness on the road can lead to irreversible consequences. As investigations continue, the community mourns the lives lost and prays for the recovery of those injured.
