Fatal Accident In Junagadh: Man Dies On Spot, Wife Looses Both Legs After Speeding Dumper Rams Into Their Scooter

Junagadh: A horrific road accident near Junagadh’s Keshod area claimed the life of a man and left his wife critically injured after a speeding dumper truck collided with their Activa scooter near Mangalpur railway crossing.
The deceased, identified as Samirbhai Chovatiya, was a resident of Keshod and ran a khaman shop in the town. He was riding the scooter with his wife as they were returning to Keshod when the accident occurred. The dumper, reportedly transporting sand at high speed, hit the couple’s vehicle with such force that Samirbhai’s body was severed in half. His wife suffered devastating injuries, including the amputation of both legs.
The driver of the dumper fled the scene immediately after the crash. Locals quickly gathered at the spot, which led to a traffic jam. Emergency services (108 ambulance) were called and responded promptly, but Samirbhai was declared dead on the scene. His wife was rushed to a hospital in Rajkot for urgent treatment.

Keshod police arrived shortly after to control the situation and clear the traffic. The deceased’s body was sent for postmortem examination, and an investigation has been launched.
Family members of the victims have demanded strict legal action against the dumper driver. Samirbhai’s brother, Pradeep Chovtiya, stated, “My brother died on the spot due to reckless driving. Authorities must take strong legal action against such careless drivers to prevent more tragedies like this. My sister-in-law lost both her legs and is now fighting for her life in Rajkot.”
Local residents have voiced concern over the frequent accidents in the area, blaming reckless driving and lack of enforcement. They allege that speeding heavy vehicles have turned the road into a danger zone, with authorities taking little to no preventive measures.
