Mahisagar: A shocking act of violence has left a quiet village in mourning after a 27-year-old man fatally ran over his father, a retired police officer, following a heated family dispute. The incident took place in the early hours of May 23 in Mota Khanpur village, located in Khanpur taluka of Mahisagar district.
According to police sources, the victim, Somabhai Sardarbhai Maliwad, 63, had retired from the Ahmedabad Police Department. A long-simmering family disagreement took a deadly turn when his son, Babubhai Somabhai Maliwad, used a Bolero SUV to intentionally hit his father after an argument escalated beyond control.
The conflict reportedly began the night before during a discussion about attending a religious ceremony. Tensions flared again the next morning when Somabhai, still upset, confronted several family members, including his wife Sankaliben and daughter-in-law Lilaben. Witnesses say Babubhai became enraged when his father continued to argue and hurl accusations.

According to statements from the family, Babubhai shouted threats before storming into the parked vehicle. Moments later, he accelerated the SUV and drove directly into his father, who was standing near a roadside tree a short distance from the house. The impact left Somabhai with severe injuries to his legs and body.
Panicked relatives and neighbors tried to rush Somabhai to a hospital in Modasa, but he died from his injuries on the way. His body was later taken to Bakor Government Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Local police have arrested Babubhai and registered a case of murder. Authorities say further investigations are underway. The brutal nature of the incident has stunned the local community, especially given the victim’s background in law enforcement. What began as a routine family disagreement has ended in an irreversible tragedy, serving as a grim reminder of how quickly personal conflicts can spiral into violence.
