Exam Scandal at PGVCL: Over 120 Candidates’ Marks Inflated in Revised Results

Ahmedabad: Allegations of irregularities have surfaced in the departmental examination conducted by Paschim Gujarat Vij Company Limited (PGVCL) on April 27 for promoting electrical assistants to junior assistant positions. Over 850 PGVCL employees took the 100-mark exam to fill 38 vacant junior assistant posts. The initial results, announced on May 27, were followed by a revised result on June 10, sparking controversy after it was revealed that the marks of over 120 candidates were arbitrarily increased by 1 to 35 points.
The discrepancies in the revised results have prompted various employee unions to lodge complaints with PGVCL’s Managing Director and the Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL). Some candidates saw their marks inflated, while others reported reductions, fueling suspicions of a potential scam. Unions have demanded a thorough investigation and transparency in the examination process to ensure fairness and prevent injustice to deserving candidates.
Raju Bhai Khatri, Secretary General of the Gujarat Vidyut Technical Karmachari Mandal, stated that numerous complaints were received from technical staff regarding the mark fluctuations. After the initial results, several employees raised objections, leading PGVCL to release revised results. However, the revised scores, which increased marks for many candidates by 1 to 35 points without explanation and reduced others, have deepened mistrust among examinees.
This is not the first controversy for PGVCL. Previously, an audio clip surfaced during the COVID-19 period, allegedly capturing two PGVCL officials Assistant Secretary of the HR Department, Rupesh Modi, and Deputy Engineer of Dhrol Sub-Division, K.N. Miyatra demanding ₹10 lakh to facilitate a ₹25 lakh compensation payment for the family of a deceased employee. Following the clip’s circulation, both officials were suspended.
