Drunk Driving Horror In Vadodara: Charge Sheet Filed Against Rakshit Chaurasia 3 Months After Fatal Crash

Vadodara: Nearly three months after a horrific car crash claimed the life of a woman and injured several others, Vadodara police have officially filed a chargesheet against the main accused, Rakshit Chaurasia. The incident, which took place on March 13, 2025, shocked the city and raised serious questions about reckless driving under the influence.

According to forensic findings included in the chargesheet, Rakshit was driving a Volkswagen at 140 km/h when he plowed into several persons near Amrapali Road. Shockingly, even after the crash, the car continued at the same speed for five seconds. Investigators found no evidence that Rakshit attempted to brake. The vehicle only came to a stop after its automatic emergency braking system activated, a safety feature designed for collision response. Had the car not been equipped with this system, the outcome could have been even worse.

In a parallel legal development, the Vadodara Sessions Court upheld a magistrate’s decision to release co-accused Pranshu Chauhan. Pranshu had been arrested by Karelibaug police on April 5, but the court found his detention to be both illegal and unconstitutional. The government’s appeal to reverse the magistrate’s ruling was dismissed.

The defense successfully argued that Pranshu’s arrest violated legal procedures, leading to a major legal reprieve for him. The chargesheet is backed by testimonies from 12 eyewitnesses who saw the crash unfold. Their statements were officially recorded before a magistrate under Section 183 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNSS). Additionally, over 100 individuals were questioned during the investigation.

Originally, both Pranshu and another man, Suresh, were treated as witnesses. However, toxicology reports later confirmed that both had consumed drugs. As a result, they were charged as co-accused and arrested. Police also submitted video footage of the crash and matched it with stills taken from eight different angles, providing further forensic confirmation that Raksit was driving.

Disturbingly, this wasn’t Rakshit’s first dangerous driving incident. Back in November 2024, Pranshu had handed Rakshit the keys to his Volkswagen, which Rakshit drove straight onto a road divider at high speed. Although no one was hurt at the time, the episode was serious enough to be reported by the car manufacturer to the police.

Despite this, Pranshu again allowed Rakshit to drive the vehicle, a decision that directly preceded the fatal Holi-night crash.
