Drugs Worth ₹3.5 Crore Smuggled in Toys, Protein Powder Seized by Ahmedabad Crime Branch

Illegal drugs were smuggled from the USA, Canada, and Thailand, disguised as toys and food items

Ahmedabad: A major drug bust by the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has resulted in the seizure of ₹3.45 crore worth of illegal narcotics. The drugs were being smuggled into India from countries including the USA, Canada, and Thailand, using international postal services.

The illicit substances, which police say include hybrid ganja, MD drugs, hashish, cannabis oil, and isopropyl nitrate, were cleverly concealed within shipments of toys and food items.

The operation was launched after the Crime Branch received a tip about suspicious packages arriving at the Foreign Post Office in Ahmedabad’s Shahibaug area. Working with customs officials, authorities identified 105 parcels which were then inspected on March 12th, leading to the discovery of the hidden drugs.

Following a thorough inspection, the Customs Department handed over the suspicious parcels to the Crime Branch, resulting in the seizure of the following items:

1. Hybrid Ganja – 10,550 grams worth ₹3.12 crore
2. Charas (Hashish) – 79 grams worth ₹3.95 lakh
3. MD drugs – 248 grams worth ₹24.80 lakh
4. Cannabis oil – 32 glass tubes (5 ml each)
5. Isopropyl nitrate – 6 bottles of (25 ml each)

Investigations reveal that those involved in the smuggling operation were using the dark web and online platforms to order the narcotics from suppliers located overseas. To avoid detection, the drug shipments were sent to fake or incomplete addresses within India, disguised as everyday items like soft toys and protein powder.

A formal case has been registered under India’s Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Police are now working to uncover the full smuggling network and identify the individuals who were intended to receive these illegal drug shipments.

The Ahmedabad Crime Branch has stated they are committed to taking strong action against drug trafficking organizations operating in this manner. They are also urging the public to be vigilant and report any suspicious activities that may be related to drug smuggling.
