Dog Drags Away One-Year-Old Girl In Surat; Blood-Stained Clothing Found Amid Ongoing Search

Police, Dog Squad, FSL, Locals Search For The Girl

A tragic incident had taken place in Vav of Kamrej taluka in Surat, where a one-year-old girl was picked up and taken away by a dog on the night of June 3. The girl has been missing since then; 36 hours have passed. The police are searching for the girl with the help of drones, teams of fire brigade, the dog squad, and local people.

The girl was the only child of laborers Aanjubhai and Teetaben, who worked at a construction site. They lived in a hut beside the site. The couple hail from Madhya Pradesh. On Tuesday night, Teetaben was cooking food and her 1-year-old girl, Maya, was sleeping, when a dog came and took away the girl. Teetaben ran after the dog and shouted for help. Hearing the noise, other laborers rushed to the spot, but till then the dog was out of sight in the sugarcane fields. At the time of the incident, Aanjubhai was in Madhya Pradesh due to some work.

Upon learning about the incident, Kamrej police and fire brigade team rushed to the spot and started searching for the girl. 36 hours have passed since the incident, but the girl has not been found yet. The police are searching the fields along with abandoned and desolate places around it. More than 150 local people have joined the search party in order to find the girl, under the supervision of Kamrej Rural DySP RR Sarvaiyya.

Meanwhile, the police have found a blood-stained leggings that belongs to the girl. The search has intensified since then. Sarpanch of Vav village, Balubhai, said that at night when the laborers were resting and preparing for dinner, a dog or cheetah-like animal came and took away a 1-year-old child. They searched hard for the child but to no avail.

On the other hand, village leader Vasantbhai Radadiya said that a laborer called at night and informed about the incident. After which, 70-80 people reached the spot. Nearly 500 to 700 people were called from surrounding areas in order to search for the girl. Police and forest staff were also with them.

The dog squad and fire brigade teams have also been sought for assistance. DySP RR Sarvaiyya said that Kamrej police immediately reached the spot on learning about the incident. Fire teams, the dog squad, forest department, and FSL teams are also helping in the search. Drones are also being used. The blood-stained leggings express the saddening possibility of the girl’s death or the chances of the animal eating up the girl. Investigations are going on in the matter. Meanwhile, the family of the girl is in extreme grief and bereavement.
