Currents Observed In Saurashtra-South Gujarat Seas; Signal Number 1 Placed On Jafrabad Port

Fishermen Instructed Not To Venture Out In The Sea Until Further Notice

Since a few days, Gujarat is witnessing a shift in the weather. Though it is the month of May, several parts are experiencing heavy rainfall. Day after day, there are also forecasts and predictions of thunderstorms and rainfall. In the midst of all this, currents were observed in the seas of Saurashtra. Due to this, as a precautionary measure, signal number 1 was placed at the Jafrabad port of Amreli.

Apart from this, currents were also observed in the sea of Gir-Somnath and Veraval. Moreover, the seas of Surat also had heavy currents. 3 foot high waves were seen rising in the sea off Surat due to the change in weather.

It has been found that these conditions have risen due to well-marked low pressure in the Arabian Sea. This system is likely to turn into a depression in the next 24 hours. Amid such conditions, fishermen have been instructed not to venture out in the sea until further notice, as the waters might become stormy. The boats already in the sea are returning to the Jafrabad port.

On the other hand, damage was reported at several places due to heavy rains. Saurashtra and South Gujarat witnessed heavy rainfall since early morning. Rivers and canals overflowed in Amreli, along with an electric pole getting collapsed.

Strong winds resulted in the roofs of homes being blown away in Kaprada, Valsad. The rains also spoiled the furniture and stored food grains kept inside the homes. Whereas in Tapi, the shed of a commercial mall collapsed in Vyara’s Moosa road; luckily no casualties were reported as the shops were closed.
