COVID-19 Update: Rising Cases Across Gujarat, Jamnagar Family Triggers Health Alert In Kutch

Jamnagar: India is witnessing a rise in COVID-19 cases, with a total of 321 active infections reported nationwide. Maharashtra leads with 56 cases, followed by Delhi with 23, Haryana with 5, and Gujarat with 33. Of Gujarat’s cases, 20 are concentrated in Ahmedabad.

Concerns are growing due to the emergence of a new Omicron subvariant, JN.1. In response, the health department in Kutch has sprung into action following a warning from the Jamnagar Municipal Corporation. The alert was triggered by a family from Jamnagar who had recently vacationed in Kutch. They stayed at a private resort in Mandvi and visited Smritivan Memorial in Bhuj before returning home.

Upon their return, 37 male members of the family tested positive for COVID-19, prompting the Jamnagar authorities to notify Kutch officials for contact tracing and preventive measures. Health teams swiftly reached the resort in Mandvi and the Smritivan Memorial in Bhuj to screen all staff members for symptoms. In total, 46 individuals were screened at both locations.

Dr. Keshavkumar, the acting District Health Officer, stated that none of the people who came into contact with the infected family have shown symptoms so far. He also noted that the new strain appears to be mild, causing symptoms similar to the common cold and no severe complications.
