Court Rejects Police Remand, Denies Bail To MLA Chaitar Vasava: Gopal Italia Not Allowed To Meet

Dediapada: A high-profile political case involving Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Chaitar Vasava has caught the attention of the state, following his arrest for allegedly assaulting Sanjay Vasava, the President of the Dediapada Taluka Panchayat. The incident has sparked legal battles, political accusations, and public demonstrations. On Friday, a local court in Narmada district rejected the police’s request to take Chaitar Vasava into five-day custody for investigation.

The court ruled that no further custodial interrogation was necessary at this stage. However, the court also denied Vasava’s bail plea, resulting in his continued detention under judicial custody.

Vasava’s legal team argued that the charges, which include serious sections like IPC 307 (attempt to murder) and IPC 109 (abetment), were unjustified and strategically applied to prolong the MLA’s incarceration. Advocate Suresh Joshi, representing Vasava, stated that the alleged incident was minor and did not warrant such harsh sections.

According to the defense, the confrontation involved a verbal dispute during a local government meeting, where a glass of water was allegedly thrown but did not injure anyone. Joshi called the police’s remand application a “political tactic,” adding that the legal team would now move to the Sessions Court for bail.

The courtroom drama extended beyond legal arguments. AAP leader and advocate Gopal Italia was stopped by police from meeting Vasava at the LCB office, triggering a verbal altercation. Italia accused the police of selectively targeting opposition leaders while ignoring more serious allegations against ruling party figures.

In anticipation of unrest, the Dediapada administration imposed Section 144, restricting gatherings in the area. This followed scuffles outside the courtroom, where a heavy police presence blocked several lawyers and supporters from entering court premises.

Due to growing tensions and security concerns, Chaitar Vasava was transferred from Rajpipla Jail to Vadodara Central Jail. Before the transfer, he was taken to SSG Hospital for a mandatory medical examination. A large crowd of AAP workers and supporters gathered outside the hospital, chanting slogans like “Chaitar Vasava, move forward – we are with you.” The demonstration underscored continued grassroots support for the embattled MLA.
