
Rajkot: Police have registered a case against Congress leader Pragati Ahir for publicly disclosing the identity of a rape victim’s family in the Atkot incident of Rajkot district. The complaint stems from a post made by the leader on social media platforms. Following the heinous sexual assault on a six-year-old girl in Atkot village of Jasdan taluka, Congress leader Pragati Ahir along with other party functionaries had visited the victim’s home to offer condolences to the family.
In detailed developments, Atkot police have initiated action against political leaders for making the victim’s family photographs viral on social media. A total of 25 individuals, including Congress leader Pragati Ahir, have been booked under the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act. Police have commenced further proceedings in the matter.
Mobile Phones and Social Media Accounts Under Investigation
Police have launched preliminary inquiry into the case, gathering details about who uploaded the photographs on social media, who forwarded them, and across how many groups they went viral. Simultaneously, authorities are examining mobile phones, social media accounts, and digital evidence. Pragati Ahir’s social media accounts contained photographs and videos that could reveal the victim family’s identity. Similar content was also shared in the WhatsApp group of Jasdan Taluka Panchayat, prompting police action.
The Incident
A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in Atkot, Jasdan taluka. Police arrested the accused, Ramsinh, in the barbaric crime. However, when the accused attempted an attack, police fired in self-defense, hitting him in the leg. The accused is now pleading before police, admitting not just his mistake but his monstrous act. The perpetrator committed this heinous crime against a six-year-old girl from a laborer’s family. The brutality extended beyond rape the monster inserted a sharp weapon into the child’s private parts. Proceedings against him are currently underway.
