Coal-laden Goods Train Derails in Jalgaon; Rail Rraffic Affected on Nandurbar-Surat Route

Mumbai: A coal-laden freight train derailed in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Thursday afternoon, leading to the suspension of traffic on both Up and Down lines of the Western Railway’s Nandurbar-Surat section, railway officials confirmed.

The derailment occurred at around 2:18 p.m. in Amalner, roughly 350 kilometers from Mumbai. According to Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, seven wagons including the locomotive of the train en route to Gandhinagar, Gujarat from Gugus in Maharashtra’s Chandrapur district, came off the tracks.

“There have been no reported injuries. All crew members are safe,” Abhishek stated. He added that senior railway personnel and accident relief trains (ARTs) from Udhana, Bhusawal, and Nandurbar have reached the site. Restoration efforts are actively underway, with a priority on resuming services as soon as possible.

Sources indicated that both directions of the Nandurbar-Surat line remain blocked due to the incident. However, clearance work is in progress, and at least one affected train is expected to resume its journey shortly.
