Ahmedabad: Bride Demands Rs 10 Lakh And Threatns Groom With POCSO After Wedding

Ahmedabad: In a case of marriage fraud, a newlywed bride fled with Rs 4 lakh cash and gold jewelry worth Rs 1.5 lakh just days after her wedding, leaving the groom in shock. The incident took place in Ahmedabad, and police have launched an investigation. Anil Agrawal, a native of Uttar Pradesh who now lives in Ahmedabad, works as a general manager at a pharmaceutical company in Makarba. Looking to get married, Anil had contacted a marriage bureau run by Sahiblal Shaho. Through the bureau, he was introduced to Divya Sinh from Varanasi. After meeting with their families on July 4, 2024, the couple got married on July 11.
According to the police, Divya’s family insisted on a quick wedding, warning Anil that if the marriage didn’t happen within 10 days, he might have to wait two more years. Anil agreed and hosted a grand ceremony. Soon after moving in with Anil in Ahmedabad, Divya allegedly began making expensive purchases, including gold jewelry and clothes. Within a month, she fled with Rs 4 lakh and jewelry worth Rs 1.5 lakh.

Later, she contacted Anil, demanding Rs 10 lakh as part of a divorce settlement. When he refused, she allegedly threatened to file a false POCSO case, claiming she was a minor. Anil also reported mental harassment by Divya and her family.
Following his complaint, Sarkhej Police have registered a case against nine people including Divya Sinh, marriage bureau owner Sahiblal Shaho, and others—Chandra Sheth, Rakesh Bind, Jagruti Sinh, Shreyas Bind, Rachna Gupta, Rudranendra Tiwari, and Pragati Pandey. They have been charged with cheating, criminal conspiracy, and extortion. Police have formed special teams and begun efforts to locate and arrest the accused.
