BREAKING: Nirbhaya-Like Jasdan Case: Accused Identified By Child, Later Shot In Leg In Police Encounter

Rajkot: The accused in the brutal sexual assault case in Atkot, Jasdan, has been injured in a police encounter. During investigation, police said the man tried to attack them and escape, forcing officers to open fire in self-defence. Two rounds were fired, and the accused sustained a bullet injury in his leg, while one police constable was also hurt. Both have been admitted to KDP Hospital for treatment.

The deputy chief minister has directed Atkot Police to file a chargesheet within 10 days and to pursue punishment of either life imprisonment or the death penalty. Officials said the condition of the six-year-old survivor is currently improving.

The incident, which shocked Jasdan, took place in Atkot and drew comparisons to the Nirbhaya case. An unknown man allegedly attempted to rape a six-year-old girl from a labourer’s family and, in an act of extreme brutality, reportedly inserted a sharp object into her genitals, causing severe injuries. The family rushed her in critical condition to Rajkot’s Janana Hospital. Taking the seriousness of the case into account, police registered an offence and arrested the accused within days.

The crime occurred on December 4, when a migrant labourer family from Dahod district was working in the fields and their six-year-and-eight-month-old daughter was playing nearby. A man noticed the child, allegedly picked her up, took her away and attempted to rape her. As the girl screamed, the accused is said to have gagged her and then thrust a rod-like object into her private parts, leaving her writhing in pain before fleeing.

When the family realised the girl was missing from the field, they began searching and found her nearby in a pool of blood. She is currently undergoing treatment at Janana Hospital in Rajkot. After receiving the complaint, Rajkot Rural Police formed around 10 teams and launched an intensive search for the attacker.

On December 9, Rajkot Rural SP Vijaysinh Gurjar said police had questioned about 100 suspects. Around 10 of them were then produced before the child in the presence of child experts, where she identified the main accused as 30-year-old Ramsingh Tersing. He was arrested and later confirmed to be a resident of Alirajpur in Madhya Pradesh and the father of three children one daughter and two sons.

The SP also clarified that no other person was involved in the crime. Ramsingh was detained from a neighbouring field next to the one where the incident took place. Police further stated that when he failed to carry out the rape, he inflicted injuries on the child’s genitals before running away.
