Gandhinagar: Union Home Minister and Gandhinagar MP Amit Shah is scheduled to visit the city today (Saturday) to inaugurate and lay the foundation stone for a range of development projects worth ₹707 crore, undertaken by the Gandhinagar Municipal Corporation and GUDA (Gandhinagar Urban Development Authority).
78 Projects to Be Inaugurated or Launched
A total of 78 projects under the Municipal Corporation will be inaugurated or initiated. Of these, 45 projects valued at ₹575.43 crore will see foundation stone ceremonies. In the North Assembly constituency, 15 projects worth ₹168 crore will commence, while in the South constituency, 22 projects totaling ₹321.50 crore will begin. Additionally, 8 projects covering both areas and costing ₹85.26 crore are included.
Key developments include a ₹16.46 crore underbridge connecting Panchdev Mandir in Sector 22 to Sector 21, and a newly constructed lake in Kolavada built at a cost of ₹11.52 crore.
Underbridge to Ease Sector 21–22 Commute
As Gandhinagar’s population grows, traffic congestion has also increased. Sector 21 is one of the city’s busiest commercial zones, while Sector 22 lies at its center. Due to frequent vehicular movement between these sectors, traffic issues were common on the road near Panchdev Mandir. The new underbridge will provide direct access from Sector 21 to Sector 22, helping reduce congestion on the C-road and benefiting thousands of commuters.
Kolavada Lake: A ₹11.52 Crore Urban Oasis
The Kolavada lake, constructed at a cost of ₹11.52 crore, is now Gandhinagar’s largest lake. According to Municipal Corporation Standing Committee Chairman Gaurang Vyas, it is set to become a prime recreational spot and attraction for city residents. The lake area features beautification, a children’s play zone, food court, outdoor games, and a one-kilometer walking track.
A standout feature is its sustainable water management treated sewage water will be used to keep the lake filled year-round through a dedicated STP (Sewage Treatment Plant). An outlet connected to the canal line ensures excess water during overflow will be safely diverted.
