Gujarat is set to experience a fresh wave of rainfall after a recent lull, according to weather expert Ambalal Patel. The state has seen a break in monsoon activity, leading to increased heat, but a new weather system is expected to bring significant precipitation starting mid-August. Patel forecasts light showers across parts of Gujarat, particularly in Saurashtra, from August 9 to 11.
However, the main rainfall event is anticipated to begin on August 15, driven by a new weather system forming in the Bay of Bengal. This system is expected to move through eastern Madhya Pradesh before reaching Gujarat, triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall from August 19 to 22. South Gujarat, South Saurashtra, and Central Gujarat are likely to be the most affected areas, with potential for flooding in some regions.
The forecast also highlights specific periods of intense weather activity. From August 22 to 24, Patel predicts the formation of “mountain-climbing clouds,” which could lead to heavier downpours in elevated areas. Additionally, heavy showers are expected around August 29 to 30, coinciding with festivals like Paryushan and Ganesh Chaturthi, potentially impacting celebrations, particularly in hilly regions like Ambaji.
Certain districts, including Junagadh, Amreli, Bhavnagar, Surendranagar, Rajkot, Morbi, and Dhrangadhra, are likely to experience heavy rainfall, while lighter showers are forecast for Devbhumi Dwarka, Jamnagar, and Porbandar. Central and North Gujarat, including Patan, Mehsana, Banaskantha, and Panchmahal, are also expected to see significant rainfall. The active monsoon is likely to benefit farmers and residents by replenishing water reserves after the recent dry spell.
This forecast aligns with broader weather patterns, as a new system in the Bay of Bengal is expected to intensify monsoon activity across the state. Patel’s predictions point to a robust monsoon phase continuing into late August, urging residents to prepare for potential heavy rainfall and its impacts.
