Families of Air India Crash Victims Demand Answers, Allege Cover-Up

Relatives of the victims of the Air India Flight AI171 crash are publicly disputing the preliminary findings of the investigation, accusing authorities of orchestrating a cover-up to protect key stakeholders. According to a report, the families claim that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau’s (AAIB) initial report into the June 12, 2025, disaster in Ahmedabad lacks transparency and shields Air India, Boeing, and Indian regulatory bodies from accountability. The crash, one of the deadliest in recent Indian aviation history, has left families grieving and determined to seek the truth behind the tragedy.
The catastrophic incident involved a Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner, which plummeted shortly after departing from Ahmedabad’s Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, claiming the lives of all 260 passengers and crew on board. The victims’ kin are frustrated by what they perceive as deliberate omissions in the AAIB’s report, which they argue fails to adequately address the sequence of events leading to the crash. Families are particularly concerned that critical technical or operational failures may have been downplayed to deflect scrutiny from the airline or the aircraft manufacturer.

In response to the report, the families are calling for an independent and thorough investigation to uncover the true causes of the disaster. They argue that the preliminary findings do not provide a complete picture and are pressing for greater transparency to ensure justice for their loved ones. The families’ allegations have sparked broader concerns about the integrity of aviation safety investigations in India, prompting renewed scrutiny of the processes governing such inquiries.
