Ahmedabad SOG Nabs Duo for Drug Trafficking Via Dating App, Seizing MD Drugs Worth Rs 1.39 Lakh

Ahmedabad: In a decisive move against drug trafficking, the Special Operations Group (SOG) of the Ahmedabad Crime Branch has arrested two individuals found in possession of a considerable amount of illegal substances. During the operation, authorities recovered 13.98 grams of mephedrone (MD), valued at Rs 1.39 lakh, in addition to other contraband worth Rs 1.55 lakh—bringing the total estimated value to Rs 2.95 lakh. The arrest was made at Ashram Road, near Naranpura Police Chowki.

The suspects have been identified as Alok Upadhyay, 23, from Ganjam, Odisha, and Karan Upadhyay, 24, from Birbhum, West Bengal. According to SOG officials, the duo was transporting the drugs with the intent to distribute them across the state. It has been revealed that they, reportedly involved in sex work, used the gay dating app “Grindr” to approach potential buyers.

A case has been registered at the Vastrapur Police Station under Sections 8(c), 21(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. Investigators are now delving into the broader network and client base linked to the suspects, while also checking for any previous criminal records registered against them nationwide.
