Ahmedabad Plane Crash: Wreckage To Stay In City For Probe And Reconstruction

Ahmedabad: In a major development regarding the tragic Air India plane crash that killed 270 people on June 12, reports have now confirmed that the aircraft debris will not be sent abroad, as initially heard. Instead, all wreckage will be secured and investigated in Ahmedabad.
Authorities had earlier indicated that the plane parts might be shipped overseas for examination. However, new directives state that the remains of the aircraft will be stored and reconstructed at a designated site near the GUSAIL airport (Gujarat State Aviation Infrastructure Ltd.) in Ahmedabad.
Teams from national and international agencies are actively involved in the investigation, and the process of transporting the wreckage from the crash site in Meghaninagar is currently underway. Under heavy police security, each part is being shifted to the local facility where a detailed reconstruction will help experts analyze the cause of the crash.
The local handling of the wreckage is a strategic move aimed at speeding up the investigation, ensuring that even the smallest components are preserved for examination. This site will serve as the primary center for reassembling the aircraft frame and conducting structural analysis.
Officials say that the wreckage will remain in Ahmedabad throughout the investigation, and only after the probe concludes will the debris be handed over to Air India. Central agencies continue to lead the inquiry, with strong support from state authorities and global aviation experts.
