The state is experiencing heavy rains since two days. The rains are causing different kinds of problems for citizens, such as waterlogging of roads and underpasses, and potholes. Amid such conditions, a tragic incident has surfaced in Nikol, where an ailing man died due to ambulance delay.
Apparently, on Wednesday (June 18) night, the city experienced heavy rainfall with thunder and lightning. As a result, rainwater entered into houses of the residents of the Madhumalti Aawas Yojana. In fact, the houses situated on the ground floor were flooded up to two feet. In such conditions, a man named Jitubhai Pandya slipped due to the rainwater that had entered in his house, and fell, getting seriously injured.
Pandya’s family immediately called for an ambulance; however, due to waterlogging near the society, the ambulance could not reach. Due to which, people put Jitubhai on a lorry and took him to the ambulance standing outside the society. However, upon checking, the ambulance worker informed that Pandya had died. This news shocked Pandya’s family.
It has now sadly become common that every year during monsoons, numerous accidents and deaths occur due to waterlogging. Roads of several parts of the city get flooded and waterlogged, making it difficult for the commuters to pass through. Moreover, rescue and relief operations also face delay due to such issues.
Meanwhile, other areas of the city, such as SG Highway, Jodhpur, Vejalpur, Vastrapur, Nehrunagar, Paldi, Vasna, Juhapura, Makarba, Sarkhej, Navapura, Changodar, Sanand, Bopal, Shela, and Shilaj, among others, also experienced rainfall. Roads in these areas got flooded, generating difficulties for the commuters.
In this case, a man tragically lost his life due to the ambulance not being able to reach properly. As monsoon has begun in full swing, it is high time now that the authorities take necessary actions to curb such rainwater-related mishaps and unforeseen incidents.
