Adalaj Canal Murder: Crime Branch Nabs ‘Psychotic’ Killer Vipul Parmar After 3-day Chase in Rajkot

Ahmedabad: The City Crime Branch has arrested 25-year-old Vipul Parmar also known as Vimal or Neel after a tense three-day hunt across Gujarat. Parmar, described by police as a “dangerously violent and psychotic” offender, is accused of killing 24-year-old Vaibhav Manwani during a late-night attack near the Ambapur canal in Adalaj on Sunday.

Crime-ridden childhood and history of violence

According to investigators and locals, Parmar’s violent streak dates back to the age of eight. Police records show a series of allegations against him, including armed robberies and even a murder case, though some charges could not be proven in court. Neighbours and relatives say the family lived in fear, with most distancing themselves from him. His father, a former CRPF jawan, passed away years ago, leaving close relatives unwilling to confront him.

Manhunt strategy and breakthrough

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Ajit Rajian tasked Inspector M.P. Chauhan’s Squad 8 with tracking Parmar. Around 25 officers were split into units: some monitored his mother’s house in Ambapur, others his sister’s residence in Shaherkotda, while a technical team scanned CCTV and phone records. Another team maintained vigil near the canal in case he returned.

The decisive lead came Tuesday morning when Parmar was spotted near his sister’s in-laws’ house in Rajkot’s Khandagiri Gam. Inspector Madhuri Gohel’s team tracked him down to Dungra locality, where he attempted to flee. After a brief chase and scuffle that left both an officer and Parmar injured, he was subdued and taken into custody. He is being brought to Ahmedabad by road.

Survivor’s clue unlocked the case

A breakthrough came from the sole survivor of the attack Vaibhav’s girlfriend. Despite suffering four stab wounds, she told police she scratched the attacker’s face during the assault. This injury became a key marker. CCTV footage later confirmed a suspect with a fresh facial scratch moving near the crime scene, narrowing the search to Parmar.

The Ambapur canal murder

Vaibhav Manwani had gone out with his girlfriend to celebrate his 25th birthday when the couple was ambushed. He was stabbed to death, while she survived severe injuries and is currently hospitalised. Police believe the motive was robbery, as Parmar fled in Manwani’s car, later found abandoned after a breakdown.

Parmar will be presented before a magistrate after his medical examination. “This was a dangerous, cold-blooded offender. The arrest reflects the perseverance of our team and the combined use of technology with on-ground policing,” DCP Rajian said.
