Ahmedabad : A mishap at a bullet train construction facility in the outskirts of Ahmedabad resulted in serious disruptions to rail services last night. A segmental launching gantry, utilized for the construction of viaducts, veered out of its path while being pulled back after completing the launch of a concrete girder at Vatva facility. Though no casualties or harm to the structure was reported in the accident, it impacted the adjacent railway line, resulting in widespread delays.
A total of 25 trains were cancelled in full, 15 in part, five were rescheduled, and six diverted. The services that were cancelled included long routes such as Ahmedabad-Mumbai Central Express and Vadodara-Vatva Intercity. The authorities are attempting to clear the wreckage with heavy-duty cranes so that train operations can go back to normal. Passengers were asked to contact a helpline for information.
