22 Year Old Gujarati Student Dies Of Heart Attack In Canada, Efforts Underway To Bring Body Home

Anand: A 22-year-old student from Gujarat tragically passed away in Canada after suffering a sudden heart attack, sparking grief in his hometown of Vans Khiliya village in Anand district. The young man, identified as Dev Patel, had moved to Canada around eight months ago on a student visa in pursuit of higher education and better opportunities.

Just days before his death, Dev had spoken with his family, who were left devastated by the unexpected news. He reportedly died on May 8 due to a heart attack, a growing concern within the Indian diaspora in Canada.

Dev’s passing marks the fourth such case of a young Indian succumbing to cardiac arrest in Canada within the last 15 days, according to Don Patel, President of the community organization Humans for Harmony, who expressed deep concern on social media about the increasing number of such incidents among young Indians abroad.

Efforts are currently underway to bring Dev’s body to India, with the support of crowdfunding initiatives launched by the community. His remains are expected to arrive in Anand by this coming weekend, either on Saturday or Sunday.

Back in Vans Khiliya, a wave of mourning has spread through the village, as friends, relatives, and neighbors struggle to come to terms with the sudden loss of a promising young life. Dev’s death has once again highlighted the mental and physical health challenges many international students face while living far from home.
