Rajkot: A tragic accident early Wednesday morning claimed the life of a 20-year-old college student after a speeding dumper truck rammed into the scooter she was riding pillion on. The incident occurred near Hanuman Madhi Chowk around 7:30 to 7:45 a.m. when two friends, both third-year B.Com students at Kansagara College, were on their way to class.

The victim, Juhi Tarunbhai Nadiyapara, was riding on the back seat of a scooter driven by her friend Nisha Merubhai Rananga when a dumper approaching at high speed from the Raiya Chowkdi side struck them. While Nisha miraculously escaped with minor injuries, Juhi was run over by the truck’s wheels, sustaining severe injuries to her legs and lower body.

Passersby rushed Juhi to Rajkot Civil Hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries during emergency treatment. The dumper driver fled the scene immediately after the crash, abandoning the vehicle. Police have since seized the dumper and are investigating the incident.

According to Juhi’s father, Tarunbhai Nadiyapara, the family lives near Bajrangwadi Circle, and he owns a mobile shop in Ambedkarnagar on Nana Mava Road. Juhi was the eldest of three siblings and a bright student. Her friend Nisha, also in her final year of B.Com., would pick her up daily from Sheetal Park Circle on her scooter, and the two would ride together to college.

On the day of the accident, Tarunbhai had dropped Juhi at their usual meeting spot. The college friends were just turning toward Nirmala Road near Hanuman Madhi when the dumper overtook and struck their scooter. Nisha recounted that the truck was moving at a reckless speed and collided with them while overtaking.

The tragic loss has left Juhi’s family in shock and grief. Authorities at Rajkot Civil Hospital informed the Gandhigram Police, who have begun formal procedures, including post-mortem examination and filing a complaint against the absconding driver. Efforts are underway to track him down and bring him to justice.
